Q. How do I go about booking the Hall?
A. You can check to see if the hall is free for hire from our Events Calendar, then fill in the Enquiry Form, the booking secretary will be in contact with you shortly to discuss your requirements. You can also telephone the booking secretary and you can arrange with the caretaker to show you around the hall, see the contacts page for telephone numbers.

Q. Is the hall open sometimes during the week? I would like to take a look around.
A. Yes, Every Friday morning between 9.30am until 12.30pm you are welcome to take a look around and see what we offer.

Q. What size is the hall?
A. The hall is 8.23 metres x 15.55 metres in length yielding approximate 127 metres 2. The meeting room is 3.63 metres x 7.62 metres in length yielding approximate 27 metres2 .

Q. How high is the ceiling (I would like to hire in a Bouncy Castle)?
A. The hall is 11ft 9 inches feet from floor to ceiling. Please make sure your Bouncy Castle suppler has the appropriate insurance cover.

Q. How many people can I have in the Hall?
A.  Please note that the there is a capacity limit for the hall, which varies with the type of event.
For dances etc this is 100 persons (80 if tables are set out); for seated events it is 120 persons (90 if tables are set out).

Q. What do I do with any rubbish which my event has created?
A. It's up to the hall hirers [you] to dispose of any rubbish left. Any rubbish left after the hiring of the hall may incur charges for the disposal. There is an industrial size bin provided at the back of the hall that can be used to dispose of waste. Additionally, there are recycling facilities for paper, glass and cans on the Downs Car Park, a minute walk from the hall. Barlaston Village Hall committee encourages the use of these facilities.

Q. Does the hall have a car park?
A. Yes, we have space for 20 cars with two spaces marked for wheel chair/disabled users at the front of the hall.

 

 

Q. What features does the hall have for disabled people
A.We have parking spaces next to the front door specifically for the disabled. The entrance to the hall is the same level as the street. We also have toilets suitable for disabled users. The side emergency exit now has a ramp to car park level.

Q. Where is the Village Hall located?
A. The Village Hall located in Longton Road about 100 metres from the junction with Station Road. Other Village landmarks nearby include the Village Green, Duke of York Pub and Post Office. See location in the menu at the top of the screen.

Q. Are there any First Aid kits on site for Hirers Use?
A. No, As the hall hirer its up to YOU, the event organiser to provide any first aid kits or cover for your event.

Q. Will the hall caretaker be around to help me in any way?
A. Yes if you ask. You can arrange this by mailing the hall caretaker a few days before your event. But its up to YOU, as the hall hirer to leave the hall as you found it.

Q. We are attending an event being held at the village hall are there any B&B's in the village?
A. We are not aware of any in the village, but at Trentham Gardens Estate, 3 mile away (8 minutes by car) has a Premier Inn.

Q. Are there any local shops near by just incase I need something?
A. Londis, a convenience store, is near the level crossing at the bottom of the village. You will also find Premier village store and a Chemist in Orchard Place, a few hundred metres passed Londis.

Q. Who owns the Village Hall and runs it?
A.  Barlaston Village Hall is a registered charity, Number 522602. The Village Hall Trustees own the building and the Barlaston Village Hall Committee (BVHC) manage the hall. The day-to-day running is managed by the caretaker, on behalf of the BVHC.

Drinks Bar.

Q. I would like a bar to serve alcoholic drinks at my event. How do I go about this?
A. The Hall is licensed for the sale of alcoholic drinks but only with the permission and involvement of our licensee or Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)  see  Contacts page  for contact details.  If your application to hire the Hall with a licensed bar is accepted by the Booking Secretary, will send you a Hiring Agreement form for you to fill in.  You may then contact our DPS and make the necessary arrangements.  Please note that we the Barlaston Village Hall Committee do not allow the consumption of alcoholic drinks on site by persons under the age of 18 years

Q. I don't want a bar but can my guests bring their own alcoholic drinks?
A. Yes. As long as you obtain the prior approval of the BVHC via our Booking Secretary,.  You and your guests are not allowed to sell any alcoholic drinks on site.  You will be held responsible and accountable for any under-age drinking or alcohol-induced misbehaviour on the property including the car park.

Q. I would like to give my guests an alcoholic drink do I need a licence?
A. No you don't need a licence.  You must inform BVHC via our Booking Secretary, that you intend to give your guests alcohol free of charge.  Once again you will be held responsible and accountable for any under-age drinking or alcohol-induced misbehaviour on the property including the car park.
